Tiger Update

So, I think I jumped the gun on the whole Tiger Woods scandal. I had no idea the media would go crazy with this story. Now, there are rumors that he has had affairs with over a dozen woman and how crazy the professional golf "scene" is. I don't know if its true but there must be little else going on in the news. Heaven forbid a celebrity have an affair! There is all this talk about how this will affect his sponsorships and endorsements. Gillette has already dropped him with rumors of more to come! I feel like they are being a lot harsher on Tiger. However, I seem to share the opinion of few.

Ann Taylor...you're looking good

I fell in love with these necklaces the other day when I was in Ann Taylor and thought I would share. If I had a couple extra hundred dollars in my back pocket, I would have bought all of them! The second one is actually sold out online!

Tiger Woods Taking a Hit

People are wondering if the recent events including the car accident and allegations of "domestic issues" will tarnish the squeaky clean image of Tiger Woods. There have been rumors of Woods having an affair and the injuries assumed to be suffered from the car accident actually resulted from a confrontation between Woods and his wife. Click here for the AdAge article. Either way, I am skeptical to believe any rumors that speak poorly of Woods because of the impeccable brand he represents. When your image is as clean as his, you're given the benefit of the doubt. That is exactly what I plan to give him and I think others will too.

The Power of Social Media

Is social media taking over advertising completely?

MediaPost says YES.

Rihanna in London

I am watching Rihanna's live concert at the Nokia Theater in London and loving it. I love her music and her style. She just wore the coolest accessory. It was an arm sleeve but the top of it had a puffy drapery look. It looked like it was made of leather (maybe). I've never seen something like that before but I would expect nothing less from the fashion forward trend setter. I tracked down a video where she is wearing the sleeve during her performance of Russian Roulette. Check it out here!

Kruger Campaign

So, love Diane Kruger. What else is new?! I found this interview with her while she was on a photo shoot for Peek & Cloppenburg fall campaign. The video has some behind the scenes footage of the shoot and Diane talks about her personal style. She is just so adorable.

Forever 21 Can Do Better

I was a little disappointed with the new Forever 21 Twist collection, Disco 21. It's nothing we haven't seen before. We've brought all the decades bath; 60's hippie and 80s neon rocker. They have all made a comeback. Why can't we leave the past in the past? Are we really out of new innovative ideas? I don't know about you but I laugh when I think of the 70s. Obviously, dressing in a disco inspired outfit would not elicit a favorable response seeing as though no one would take you seriously. Come on Forever 21, I know you can do better. I say "pass" on this collection.

Iman and Lauren: What a combo

Chanel Iman is ravishingly stunning in this Ralph Lauren gown at the GQ Gentlemen's Ball. I absolutely love this on her. She looks like a pretty ballerina. This is just another reason why Ralph Lauren is one of my favorites.

Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery

People say that imitation is the sincerest source of flattery. If someone is copying your identity and strategy, it must be good. The opening of the first Microsoft retail store is no exception to this theory. After decades of business, Microsoft has finally come to the conclusion that having a retail front is good for business. They opened their first store in Scottsdale, Arizona. The "sleek modern design" is a little too reminiscent of the upscale stores that Apple has built across the country. Apple always is one step ahead of the rest of the industry in both technology and marketing of their products. Microsoft's attempt to jump on the bandwagon proves Apple's superiority in technological innovation. However, I will admit I am a bit bias as a I am a "Mac person."

Balmain on the Red Carpet

Sienna Miller showed up the other night in this new Balmain creation...

Too bad she kind of looks like Peter Pan. Although, if she had to wear this particular dress somewhere I guess the opening for her broadway show, After Miss Julie, was her best bet. I mean, if you can't dress like Peter Pan for Broadway, when can you (except maybe Halloween, which is conveniently in a couple days). However, don't read too much into this. I still remain a Balmain fan and will prove to you why. This is how Balmain has been positively represented recently:

"Ista" Campaings

Speaking of TJ Maxx, there is a new trend emerging in fashion ad campaigns. Adding "ista" to key words seems to be turning into a frenzy. It all started from fashionista and then quickly evolved into "bargainista," "maxxinista," "recessionista," "stylista," and more. You name it and it can become -"ista." The first that come to mind our TJ Maxx's, "Are you a maxxinista?" and Target's, "become a bargainista" slogans. It seems that the fashion industry's efforts to reinvent the shopper in all of us are starting to take influence. Hopefully, it will be a well received effort.

Marshalls | T.J.Maxx "Interventions"

TJ Maxx and Marshalls have teamed up for a new ad campaign highlighting their efforts to aid the inner fashionista in every woman that suffers from over spending. In this series of commercials, a girl's best friends come to stage an intervention for their friend that continues to indulge in overpriced fashion. I have to admit it is a bit cliche and satirical to use the "intervention" approach, however, applying it to the world of fashion is new and refreshing. I think it will resonate with many shopaholics out there who are coping with the tough economic times. I thought it was funny and memorable.

Adweek published an article on the campaign. Check it out here!

Alexa Chung looking stunningly cute in Versace. I want inside her closet if only for a minute!

Is it just me or is Danielle Panabaker wearing a curtain on her back? As much as I love some Dulce, this look is anything but sweet. This is the Young Hollywood Party not a trunk show.

Seguins, Feathers, Glitter Oh My!

There is one quote that sums up tonight's episode of Project Runway.

"You put diamonds on the crotch and you are home free!" - Bob Mackie

I am a huge fan of Christina Aguilera but I was not a fan of this week's challenge. I agree with the judges in that none of the designs overly "wow-ed" me. However, Carol Hannah deserved to win. It was flashy in a classic way. Definitely screams Christina!

Simply Elegant DK

I love Donna Karan's spring line. Oh so perfect! It is very rare that I like everything in a collection but I can't name a single ensemble that I did not love. Esquisicly beautiful are the words that come to mind. I enjoyed her line because it reasserts the power of neutral colors with just a pop of color (red!). Once I enter the professional world, I can't think of a better fit for a professional and feminine look.

Absolutely stunning.

One Step Closer to a J-O-B

Today, I visited a local agency here in Wilmington. This was the second time I visited Talk Inc. and I really enjoyed it. I definitely want to intern here! Small, boutique agencies are the best way to learn the tools of the trade. I hope I get the chance to experience such a diverse agency. And, it doesn't hurt that is doggie friendly :)

Gossip Girl on the down...

Is it just me or is Gossip Girl going downhill? They are inviting all these outside celebrities to have cameo appearances on the show. This week Tyra Banks and Hillary Duff made an appearance. I've heard that Hillary Duff will continues to be on the show for a couple of weeks. I was a tad disappointed to hear this. Do they really have to go and "Hollywood-ize" the show? I mean, Hillary Duff plays a famous actress on the show. Cliche much? I guess the writers are starved for dramatic plot. However, I was glad to see that Dan Humphrey came to his senses regarding Georgina. I about vomited when I saw them make out after her rooftop party. Although, according to previews, that does not seem to be the end of Dan and Georgina. It never is! I just hope the show gets rid of their need for celebrity name dropping and returns to their roots that made the show good in the first place.

GaGa for Gucci

Two words for Gucci Spring 2010 RTW: pattern and embellishment. Exciting use of patterns and black beading accents trademarked Gucci's new collection for spring. Would we expect anything less from the designer power house?!

More Armani Please

I am in love with the new spring line from Armani. To die for. There was a good mix of neutrals and color used in both flattering and innovative ways. I was a big fan of the oversized "pearl" necklaces. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. Chic yet absolutely wearable.

Olivia Wilde Stunning in Marchesa

There were mixed verdicts about Olivia Wilde's dress at the Emmy's this year. However, looking back, I love it. You can tell it's Marchesa just with a glance and there are very pieces of Marchesa I can deny. This dress looks as if to be painted on her body, flattering her every curve. I love this style because it uses classic looking fabrics but with a modern twist with the skin baring back. I don't care what anyone says, it is absolutely divine.

Casual Chic

I love this! It is simple yet chic. I was inspired by Ralph Lauren's efforts to mix casual and dressy styles for his spring collection. The combination of a feminine, silk look paired with weathered jeans was just fabulous! I could see Carrie Bradshaw walking down the street in this cute and casual little number. Maybe in the next SATC movie?!

Proenza Schouler Spring Collection

Looking at the new spring line from Proenza Schouler, I unfortunately have to admit that I am not a fan. I had high hopes for the youthfully inspired collection with all of the bright colors. However, I thought it looked a little too messy. It missed the "wow" factor. Oh well, that is just my opinion. More of those to come!

A Whole New Meaning to Paper Mache

I am sitting here watching Project Runway and being blown away with the outfits hitting the runway. I was pretty shocked when I found out the challenge was to create a look strictly out of paper. I wouldn't even know where to start! I was amazed at some of the outfits that were "crafted" out of the L.A. Times. I love Christopher's gown. The shield-like bodice with the softness of the feather inspired bottom is the perfect combination of femininity and edge. I thought this dress should have won. However, all of the designers really did create something out of nothing. Overall, it was a really innovative and unique challenge. Loved it!

*I could not find a photo of Christopher's dress because the episode aired 10 minutes ago but I will post it when I see it!

What's Underneath Your Jean Shorts?

I've been seeing articles in different magazines about a new trend for fall. It involves underlining a pair of jean shorts with black tights. It sounds interesting but something about it just doesn't seem right. Every time I see pictures of girls pairing casual, ripped jean shorts with dressier stockings I can't help but tilt my head to the side trying to make sense of it. It's two much of a clash of clothing genres (haha). Even though I know I have tried this look at some point in my life, I can not see myself doing it anytime soon. I am still up in the air with whether or not it works. I guess the jury is still out.

Shout-Out To My Fav!

I grinned with delight when I saw a full page dedicated to one of my favorite style icon's, Diane Kruger, in this month's issue of
Marie Claire. It is about time she start drawing attention for her impeccable street style. It is one thing to look good on the red carpet when you have hired a stylist to do the work for you. However, it is quite another thing to look good on your own in your every day life. Right now, she's into the across-the-body purses and black boots. And, of course, she can not be spotted with out her signature Ray-Ban "esque" sunglasses. Lovin' it. Thanks, Marie Claire

End of Summer Savings!

This past weekend I did some major shopping. My friend needed to buy some work clothes for her new job and asked me to help her out. I happily obliged. To be fair, I haven't shopped in a little while and school started back up so I needed to reward myself anyway! In my head I was thinking, "Find the best deals!" So, I hit up Forever 21, American Eagle, and Target and found some good buys. At Forever 21, I was all about some black because it is one of my favorite colors to wear and fall will be here before you know it. It is always good to have black on supply. I found this really cute black top that has a floral pattern on the neckline made out of actual zipper. How cool! Less than 18 bucks!
I also found some other great deals. I have been wanting a pencil skirt for awhile and just haven't been able to find one that flatters my hips just right (haha). However, I found a great looking pencil skirt at Target, believe it or not, for just 20 bucks! On the American Eagle sale rack I came across bright floral print shirts for $7.50. Plus, this strapless mini was a one of a kind. It is a light "railroad" denim. Just 20 bucks!
All in all, a pretty successful shopping trip! There goes some of my summer money...

Rachel Zoe visits Marchesa

Tonight's episode of The Rachel Zoe Project centered around the style team trucking up to NYC for Fashion Week. Let me say, what a spread! She was hitting up fashion's hottest designers as if they were her bff. One can only dream! As the plot thickened by the added stress of trying to find a red carpet gown for Anne Hathaway, Rachel decided to make a stop by Marchesa to see if anything would work. This was my favorite part of the episode because those gowns were by far my favorite. I adore Marchesa and think Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig design some of the most romantic and feminine dresses. Here are a couple I can only admire from a distance:

Fashion's Night Out

This is a really cool event that Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, was publicizing along with the premiere of The September Issue. In an attempt to encourage shopolohics across the New York City to return to their favorite hobby, Wintour is coordinating a Fashion's Night Out where stores will be open late for fashionistas to shop til they drop. I only wish I could be in New York for this event!

Project Runway is Back!

I hope everyone watched the season premiere of
Project Runway last week! I thought the first challenge of creating a red carpet look was a good starter. If you can't design atleast a formal dress than get out of town! First thing is first, what was Ari thinking? Mini shorts on a red carpet? That is red flag number one. This outfit looks like something I might wear to a run down night club. Not really the tone we're going for here. Second, the metallic discs that made up her shirt. This would work perfectly if I was planning a trip to Pluto but seeing as though I think Earth will be my permanent residence, I don't see the use for the alien-esque ensemble. I will give props to Ari for being bold. Atleast she took risk. Unfortunately, that risk was just too much for the first challenge. My favorite design of the night was definitely Gordana's. The strapless mini was simple, cute, and figure flattering. Not to mention, I love the sea-foam color. Check it out!

Also, The Rachel Zoe Project premiered this past Monday. Is it just me or is Rachel Zoe gaining quite the clientele? She was styling quite a few of the Hollywood's elite for the Golden Globes including Anne Hathaway, Eva Mendes, Cameron Diaz, Demi Moore, and Debra Messing. My favorite of the night was Eva Mendes, hands down! I love the color contrast of the white dress to the eye-catching teal choker. Doesn't she look fierce!

"Bananas, I die," to quote the style guru herself.

Attention students! Fashion 101 is officially in session so get watchin'!

New Teen Vogue Handbook

I was really excited to hear of a new book hitting stores on October 5th that gives a real inside look into the fashion career world. Everyone who knows fashion is aware how competitive it is to break into the industry. This new handbook gives personal success stories and tips from the world's leading fashion designers and executives. I definitely look forward to reading it. A Must Have For Fall

There is one fall accessory you won't be able to live without. BOOTS! They are all over fashion spreads and fall runway shows. The recent Elle cover shoot of Miley Cyrus parading the new Rodarte thigh high boots made me think that I should take this new fall accessory seriously.

I was able to score a cute pair of black booties at Forever 21. However, I found some other cute booties!
