Spotting all the trends

All Hail the Dillian Shoe!

I saw these shoes and instantly fell in love! Christian Louboutin created the Dillian shoe for Phillip Lim's spring line. It has a little bit of latin flare. I love the idea of bringing ruffles off the dress and on to shoes. Too bad they are only being sold at his boutique in Hong Kong and they cost an arm and a leg. I think if my conversion was right, they are over 2000 dollars. I guess we will just have to settle for seeing them in photos...They do look mighty pretty!

You Can Decide What I Wear!

There was a really interesting article in this month's Vogue that took putting together outfits to a new extreme. Need help putting together a look for a big event? Well, now you can solicit the help of fashionistas across the web. Christine Elia, CEO and founder of the new virtual closet website entitled Closet Couture, has given us the ability to upload our closets online. Website members have the ability to comment on certain outfits and put together some themselves based on the clothes you have in your closet at home. It is as easy as uploading pictures of all your closet items into "My Wardrobe." Then you can arrange different looks in the "Dressing Room" and post them for your friends and other users to review and judge. This takes getting dressed in the morning to an all new level. I just registered today and have yet to upload pictures but I'm excited to explore all that I can do on this virtual website. I'll be sure to give updates on how my experimentation goes.

What's Your Style?

I just took this style network's quiz. I love quizzes and this is a good one!

mystyle quiz result was Couture.

I love the intricate detailing of a well-made pant or jacket; I always notice the buttons, seams and linings of a garment, as the bones are as important as the finished product. I enjoy reading about Fashion Week because I can get a jump on what's going to be happening next. I like to invest in a few key pieces each season, and I recognize fashion as an art form. To me, Lanvin and Louboutin are as important as Matisse and Monet.

Running in Heels Finale

So, I have been watching this new reality series on the style network called Running in Heels. It is a reality show that follows the triumphs and struggles of 3 interns at Marie Claire magazine. I am so glad I found out about this because it had me hooked right from the start. With all of the reality shows out there, this one is different and fresh. I know a lot of struggling  young adults will find this insightful as they too try to make it in such a competitive market for jobs. The finale was last week and I have to say I was pretty shocked that Talita was the one offered a position with Marie Claire. I think it was apparent that Samantha was not cut off for the magazine industry so it was really between Talita and Ashley. There was a lot of criticism of everyone throughout the show so I thought no one would be given a job out of the internship but it looks like Talita got the lucky lottery ticket on this one. I hope they do another season because I would never miss an episode!

Pretty in Pink...or Blue..or Green..or Orange..

Summer is just about here and so are colors! I have to admit it has been a long winter of black, white, and gray but I'm glad to see that color has finally arrived. We can always thank spring for coming along and brining us floral prints and, therefore, a greater range of color. I think I have been subconsciously craving more pep in my step and some purple denim pants could do the trick. For summer, stores are busting out denim skinny jeans in all your favorite skittle colors. I was window shopping in Forever 21 the other day and noticed the wide selection of colored skinnys that were just 20 bucks! So, at-least you won't feel that bad about buying something a little crazy such as this. I might just have to grab me a pair so that I can get out of my dark tones funk. I'm glad to see crazy colors for summer. If you ask me, it seems like a throwback to the 80s, which is always fun. I've noticed a lot of eighties trends for summer. I mean...it is hard not to miss the neon colors. So, I say, go out and buy a pair at Forever 21, rent Pretty in Pink, and get thrown back a couple decades for summer.

Attention...Salute!

Is it just me or is Michael Jackson's jacket making a come back!?! It has been showing up in several new lines for spring. These military style jackets have made appearances in such collections as Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors. There seems to be a growing buzz for the return of this oldie-but-goodie. In fact, Teen Vogue dedicated an entire six page spread to the growing military influence entitled "Enchanted Solder." The line screams Balmain and gives a 80s rocker chic vibe. Some designers are making it edgier than others with darker color ranges. To soften the blow, stylists at Teen Vogue have suggested mixing floral prints with a military inspired vest or jacket. I think this is a really cute idea! It adds a new feminine twist on what has been interpreted as a very harsh and robust look. I say as long as you break it up with another type of print, salute away!

Summer Sandals Anyone?

As I was flipping through this month's Teen Vogue, I was on the lookout for some summer sandals. It is the one obvious thing I'm lacking in my closet right now and summer is right around the corner. A common trend I noticed for summer footwear is the simple and lightweight flat. Jewel embellished sandals seem to be a reoccurring image for summer. Sandals this season are all about being paper thin so you can be light on your feet! It is a cute twist on a boring sandal. You might want to consider grabbing a pair for the summer!

Kristin Davis for Everyone!

A really cute thing I have stumbled across over the past couple months is the new clothing loine by Kristin Davis. It makes complete sense that, after her many years as the cute and always elegant Charlotte on Sex and the City, she would design a line of apparel, shoes, and accessories inspired by the show. I love this line because it takes inspirations from couture, which few can attain, and designs affordable pieces that everyone can indulge in. The line is an even mix between Kristin's southern charm and Charlotte's classic, conservative style. The clothes use clean lines and simple but impressionable prints. The sophisticated and uncomplicated look of the line makes it universal for all women and a timeless purchase that will last even when certain trends go in and out of style. The line was launched back in August at Belk department stores across the country. What's the even better news? The prices range from just 30 to 240 dollars. Plus, Belk stores have sales all the time so you can find these items even cheaper. I found these shoes pictured to the right for a little over 40 bucks when they were originally over 80! So, all Sex and the City and Kirstin Davis fans alike should head over to Belk and check out this hot new line!
